Who is Bean?Beignet (or Bean for short) is our mascot here at Bean's Books! She is a spunky, wild, crazy, yet loving and sweet 12-year-old miniature schnauzer. I named the store after her because of her unwavering companionship as my reading and writing buddy every since fifth grade. And, like her, we hope to be that same warm, loving presence for you. You can read more about Bean's history on the Instagram post below!

What does it mean that y'all are "Christ-centered"?Jesus is at the center of everything we do. Bean's Books had always been, and, Lord willing, always will be a ministry to share the life-saving truth of what Jesus did for us and the life he offers. We want to show Him in everything we do, from the customer service, the atmosphere when you walk in, the posts you see on social media, and the books you see on the shelves. Our best foot is always forward for Him. That said, this does not mean every book will be Christian or Christian approved. Our Christian section has such offerings if you are looking for them. Instead, we want to offer a variety of works that, while controlled to an extent - leaving out anything egregiously spicy, hateful, or troubling - show what is actually out there in the world. Author Flannery O'Connor always claimed that, when it came to writing stories, the truth must be vivid and plainly stated if you are to show a Godly message. Specifically, she says "Fiction is about everything human and we are made out of dust, and if you scorn getting yourself dusty, then you shouldn't try to write fiction." Our reality isn't one that's clean. Far from it. However, it's the same one within which our God works. If we decide to always turn away from that, we fail only ourselves. Thus, when you see a book you disagree with in our store, don't write us off as faltering in our mission to share God's Word. We are - and sharing His world alongside it. Don't be afraid to see brokenness for the fact that it's broken; see it as God does, as the opportunity for it once again to be made whole.

What kind of books do y'all sell?We sell pretty much everything! You can get a look at the specific genres on our Books page. In general, we try to strike a balance between core, classical reads, books trending in the modern zeitgeist, and hidden gems you don't tend to see everyday. Likewise, since we're a Christ-centered organization, the choices we pick reflect our foundational values. Don't come in expecting anything spicy! Not everything will be squeaky clean, of course, but what we put on our shelves is a reflection of what we hope the wider community will take part in reading and enjoying.
